Sustainable Funeral Flowers
Welcome to my online training course: Sustainable Funeral Flowers. In this course, we’ll explore innovative, eco-friendly techniques to design beautiful funeral tributes without the use of floral foam.
Floral foam, commonly used for its convenience in securing arrangements, poses significant environmental concerns. It is a single-use plastic that does not biodegrade, breaking down into microplastics that pollute waterways and harm wildlife. Additionally, it contains chemicals that can be harmful to both florists and the environment.
This course will guide you through sustainable alternatives that honour both the memory of loved ones and the health of our planet. You’ll learn practical methods for creating stunning, structurally sound funeral arrangements that reflect your commitment to environmentally responsible floristry.
Join me as we embrace practices that support both artistic creativity and ecological stewardship.
This course consists of a series of detailed 'how-to' videos showing how to create funeral arrangements using sustainable floristry techniques.
Current 'how-to' videos demonstrate the design of 12 arrangements so you can learn how to offer customers a range of different floral tributes:
A coffin blanket in several different ways (some florists call these double-ended sprays) - as a single piece, as modules and with living plants
A raffia-tied sheaf and a new concept called The Bridge that connects two sheafs to cover the coffin
Two ways to make a wreath
Two ways to create a flower-filled heart
A Royal Oval - based on the late Queen Elizabeth II wreath
A snip and share which is a design that consists of several bunches of flowers and a central flower pad that can be separated and shared after the funeral
A modular design that has jars of flowers hidden within the arrangement
A wicker basket filled with jars
A posy pad
